I’m going to be honest, crochet was pretty much the last thing that came to mind when I got a call from the editors at ART Magazine. However, the briefing sounded crazy and I was – of course – all in.
What was it?
Portraits and impressions of the worldwide Crochet Coral Reef project by Christine and Margaret Wertheim. Two Australian artists based in California. Hosted by the Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden.
Featuring over 20,000 crowdsourced crochet submissions from all over the globe. This was literally a sprawling exhibition of crochet coral reefs throughout the museum.
Spending some time “under the sea” with the artists and their creations was truly an ethereal experience.
